# Slack app: threaded alerts with Claim, Not ICP, and Wrong person buttons

> Add WhoLayer to Slack for one thread per visitor, buttons your team can act on, and an optional daily brief.

Category: Destinations

The Slack app is on every plan. If the option says **coming soon, needs setup**, our Slack app isn't switched on yet. Until it is, use a [Slack incoming webhook](https://wholayer.com/help/destination-slack).

## Set it up
1. In WhoLayer, open **Destinations**, choose **Slack app (threads and buttons)**, name it, and set any filters.
2. Click **Add to Slack** and approve the WhoLayer app for your Slack workspace.
3. You're sent back to Destinations. Pick a **public channel** on the new destination and click **Save changes**. Nothing is posted until a channel is picked.
4. Click **Send test**. A sample alert with buttons appears in the channel. Clicking its buttons doesn't save anything.

## How alerts work
- **One message per person or company per site.** The first time we identify someone, we post a message with who they are, their ICP fit, the pages they viewed, and where they came from.
- **Updates go in the thread.** When they come back (after 30 minutes or more without activity) or open one of your [key pages](https://wholayer.com/help/high-intent-pages), we reply in the thread and update the message with the latest visit count and ICP score.
- **High-intent only** posts the message the first time they open a key page, then replies in the thread on later key-page views.

## The buttons
- **Claim** shows who's following up. Click it again to unclaim. Someone else's claim can't be taken over.
- **Not ICP** saves "Not ICP" feedback for that person or company (the same as on their page in WhoLayer, used when you [re-tune your ICP](https://wholayer.com/app/icp)) and stops alerts for them in this channel.
- **Wrong person** [reports a wrong match](https://wholayer.com/help/report-bad-data): the credits for it are refunded within the refund cap, the person is never sent anywhere again, and we remove their details from the Slack message. Anyone in the channel can click it, so post alerts to a channel your team uses.

## Daily brief
Tick **Daily brief** to post a summary every morning (about 13:00 UTC): people, companies, and high-intent visits in the last 24 hours, plus the top people, companies, and sources. Nothing is posted on quiet days. It uses the same numbers as the [email digest](https://wholayer.com/help/email-digest).

## Good to know
- The app asks for three permissions: post messages, post to public channels without being invited, and list public channels for the picker. It can't read your messages.
- We store an encrypted bot token. For people who click a button, we store only their Slack user id and name.
- People who opt out are never posted. When someone opts out or asks us to delete their data, we automatically edit every Slack app message about them (the alert and its thread replies) to remove their details. If Slack access was removed, we can't edit old messages, so delete them in Slack.
- Failed alerts are retried automatically for 24 hours. Alerts, thread replies, and daily briefs all show in the delivery log.
- To disconnect, delete the destination here, and remove the WhoLayer app in Slack under **Settings and administration**, **Manage apps**. If the app was removed, edit the destination, tick **Reconnect**, and save.
